The Calf Arrives!

DSCN0609

Once born, the calf is kept in a pen next to the milking parlor for about a week, at which point she is moved to an individual “calf hutch.”  Keeping each newborn calf in its own individual hutch is extremely important because they are still in the process of developing and strengthening their immune system.  This also greatly reduces the risk of the calf getting sick.
